I have managed to replace my shoemaker’s hammer with a computer mouse. This was exactly what we had in mind when I started implementing CAD/CAM technology twenty-three years ago in Canada. With Vorum Research I became involved in the development and implementation of CAD/CAM technology. Finally in 2010 we connected with Choose Your Shoes (CYS). In the true spirit of Dutch innovation they had successfully implemented CAD/CAM technology into their manufacturing facility. Steenwyk Custom Shoes started sending digital data to CYS on a trial basis. Based on the success of the pilot it did not take long before we completely discontinued our in-house production. We have now re-directed our total custom shoe production to CYS; even the most complicated cases. As a result of our relationship I now can totally focus on the clinical aspects of custom footwear as a shoe designer/engineer.
In a virtual world the idea of “measure twice, cut once” has become even more important to “get it right the first time”. We have been able to increase our production significantly. Fast delivery time, superb quality and incredible shoe
selection have contributed to our customer satisfaction and re-orders. Based on the incredible manufacturing support from CYS our day to day operations are less labor intensive, less physically demanding, and more efficient.
